A very historic event has occurred for the film industry in Barbados. California Pictures, situated in Paramount Studios, Hollywood has picked up the Caribbean Blockbuster film Vigilante-The Crossing for Worldwide Distribution.
The experience at Cannes Film Festival has been a very successful one for this very young film production company that has produced five films over its 7 year existence.
It was Barbados’s first time being represented at Cannes and therefore Vigilante-The Crossing has made history in being the first Barbadian produced film to be screened at the world’s most prestigious film festival and market.
SBS has been also able to secure Co-Production with a film company, Mad Love, in the Spanish speaking country of Colombia. This new film co-production will occur in 2017.
They have also achieved a very strong connection with FJ Production Company in LA, producers of the HBO show Hollywood News Reporter. FJ Productions have agreed to record and broadcast, in the US, Barbados’ second film festival (Barbados Video & Media Awards 2015).
SBS next project, a docudrama on the life of Errol Barrow, a national hero and icon, is also being considered for Distribution by DogWoof the leading documentary producer in Europe. The Errol Barrow Docudrama is set to be completed by November 2016 to commemorate the 50th Independence Celebrations of Barbados.
This is indeed great news for the film Industry in the Caribbean which is still in its developmental stage.
