KEYS TO NEW HOMES DELIVERED
Prime Minster of Barbados, the Hon. David Thompson, M. P., handed over 33 new homes to their proud and delighted owners, on Sunday, March 7, 2010 in Marchfield, St. Philip.
Approximately 500 people witnessed the ceremony which highlighted the efforts of the Ministry of Housing and the NHC to provide low cost housing to low and middle-income earners. Minister of Housing and Lands Michael Lashley noted that “each unit provides a savings of $58,000” which is more affordable when compared to the housing available on the private market.
The Housing Every Last Person (H.E.L.P.) Programme aims to ensure that persons on the lower end of the financial income spectrum can obtain affordable housing. Both the NHC and the Ministry of Housing and Lands are mandated to provide houses which range between $120,000 to $165,000 and and land costing between $18,000 to $12,000.
Performers at the ceremony included Gordon Walters Primary, Bayley’s Primary School, singers Tanya Clarke and Junior Williams.
At the close of the event, Stedson “Red Plastic Bag” Wiltshire sang his popular “Something’s Happening” which resulted in attendees jumping to their feet and dancing to the music. Some persons even held the hands of St. Philip MPs Adriel Brathwaite and Dr. David Estwick and danced with them during RPB’s presentation.
